Setting up Google WiFi involves placing the pucks, connecting them to power, and configuring the network through the Google Home app. The process takes about 15 minutes and requires a compatible router or modem.
Before starting, gather these items:
Place your first Google WiFi puck in a central location, ideally near your router or modem. For larger homes, position additional pucks to cover dead zones. Keep them plugged in throughout the setup process.
Plug the Google WiFi puck into a power outlet using the included power adapter. Wait for the light to turn solid blue, indicating it's ready for setup.
Open the Google Home app on your smartphone. Tap the "+" icon in the upper-left corner, then select "Set up device" and choose "New device in home." Follow the prompts to sign in to your Google account if needed.
The app will guide you through connecting to the Google WiFi network. Tap "Next" until you reach the screen that asks you to connect to the Google WiFi network. Select it from the list of available networks.
Use an Ethernet cable to connect the Google WiFi puck to your modem or router for a stable connection. If you prefer a wireless setup, skip this step, but note that wired connections are more reliable.
Follow the remaining on-screen instructions to name your network and set a password. Once completed, the Google WiFi puck will restart. This may take a few minutes.
If you encounter issues during setup, try these solutions:
For the best performance, place additional Google WiFi pucks in areas with weak signals. Use the Google Home app to run a network check and identify dead zones. Consider using Google WiFi routers for advanced features like parental controls and guest networks.
Once your Google WiFi is set up, explore advanced features like prioritizing devices, setting up a guest network, or integrating with other smart home devices. For business use, consider setting up Google Workspace for smooth cloud-based collaboration.
